Tricyclic antidepressants may be prescribed for CFS patients to improve sleep and to relieve mild, generalized pain.
 
Examples of tricyclic antidepressants include:
 
Effective dosages for CFS patients are often much lower than the dosages used to treat depression. Some side effects of tricyclic antidepressants include dry mouth, drowsiness, weight gain, and elevated heart rate.

Other antidepressants are now being used to treat depression in CFS patients and non-depressed CFS patients.
