Glutathione Antioxidant Information

Glutathione is a molecule that is made up of several amino acids and is naturally made by the human body. This substance works as an antioxidant, helping to prevent free radical damage to cells. It is also important for making DNA, proteins, and other substances in the body. Because of these effects, people take glutathione supplements for many uses, such as to treat glaucoma, Alzheimer's, and liver disease, and to slow the aging process.

Some research has suggested that taking glutathione by mouth is not effective for any use, as it is not absorbed well by the body when taken orally. However, using it intravenously (through an IV) may be effective for some uses.

Although glutathione is a "natural" substance, it may not be safe for everyone. For instance, it may not be a good idea to use glutathione if you have certain health conditions, such as asthma or certain allergies. At this time, there are no well-documented side effects of the antioxidant.
