Glutathione Side Effects

No studies have been done to determine possible side effects of glutathione. At this time, there are no known side effects with the supplement. This does not mean, however, that glutathione side effects are not possible. It simply means that no side effects related to glutathione have been reported. If you are using glutathione supplements and you develop something that "just does not seem right," contact your healthcare provider.

Does Glutathione Cause Side Effects?

Glutathione is a naturally occurring antioxidant produced by the human body (although it is also found in foods and dietary supplements). At this time, there are no known glutathione side effects. However, this does not guarantee that glutathione does not cause side effects; it simply means that no side effects with glutathione have been reported, either in clinical studies or in case reports (individual reports from healthcare providers about side effects seen in their patients). Most likely, the lack of reported side effects reflects a lack of glutathione studies large enough to find side effects; it probably does not indicate that glutathione really is free of side effects.

Even if it turns out that glutathione really does not cause any side effects, it is still possible that side effects may occur due to inactive ingredients or contaminants found in glutathione supplements. Improperly prepared, inhaled, or injectable glutathione has the potential to be quite dangerous, due to contaminants or other problems.

Final Thoughts on Glutathione Side Effects

It is important to let your healthcare provider know about any side effects you experience that may be related to glutathione. Your healthcare provider will likely be interested in any possible side effects of glutathione and may even want to report them (especially if the side effects are particularly serious or interesting). You should also let your healthcare provider know if you develop something that "just does not seem right" while using glutathione. Although it may not be a side effect of the supplement, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
