MSM and Breastfeeding

No studies have been conducted on MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) and breastfeeding. Therefore, it is not known whether the supplement could cause any problems in a nursing infant. Before taking MSM, breastfeeding women should talk to their healthcare providers about the safety of using dietary supplements while breastfeeding.

An Overview of MSM and Breastfeeding

MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is a dietary supplement used for a variety of different purposes. At this time, it is unclear whether MSM is safe for breastfeeding women. Therefore, do not take MSM while breastfeeding without the approval and supervision of your healthcare provider.

Can I Take MSM While Breastfeeding?

There is no reason to believe that MSM is safe (or unsafe) for breastfeeding women. It has never been studied in breastfeeding women, and it is not known if MSM could cause any problems in a breastfed infant. As a result, it is probably best to avoid MSM supplements while breastfeeding (unless your healthcare provider specifically suggests that you do so for a specific medical reason).

You should talk with your healthcare provider about MSM and breastfeeding. Each woman's situation is different, and you and your healthcare provider understand your situation best. After considering what you want and expect, as well as your current health situation, you and your healthcare provider can make a shared decision about MSM and breastfeeding in your particular situation.
